Mission

The mission of the Estonian Centre of Folk Culture is to create favourable conditions for the viability and sustainable development of Estonian folk culture and intangible cultural heritage in all its diversity.

Vision

Estonian people know and value their folk culture and intangible cultural heritage is in active use. The cornerstones of a viable folk culture are strong communities, motivated and professional leaders and young people interested in folk culture.

Principles

Cooperation is the fundamental prerequisite for the development of the field of folk culture. The task of the centre is to provide all-round support for achieving common goals to those operating in the field. We develop the field in cooperation with state institutions, municipalities, central societies, non-profit associations, higher education institutions and companies. Through the network of folk culture specialists in the counties, we have direct contact with folk culture personalities and leaders in every corner of Estonia.

Professionalism and leadership – the centre’s employees are experts and good advocates in the field of folk culture. Together with our partners, we actively participate in the development of the field, as well as encourage and inspire preserving and valuing the intangible cultural heritage.

Continuity and innovation – preserving traditions and ensuring continuity as well as innovation and finding creative solutions for the development of the field play an important role in the centre’s work. The centre is a modern and innovative institution.
